Where to Get Immunized
The best (and often least expensive) place to get vaccinated is at your doctor's office or primary care clinic as part of regular health care.
Call in advance to check that the vaccines you need are in stock and to get cost information. If your doctor's office does not have the vaccines you need, check the options below.
Vaccines for Adults
- Adult Immunization and Travel Clinic. Most vaccinations can be given on a walk-in basis. For vaccines involving travel it is best to make an appointment.
- Pharmacies. These locations usually offer vaccines on a walk-in basis for a fee. Check out the IMMUNITY campaign to find a pharmacy in your neighborhood that offers vaccines.
- Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B , Flu, and Tdap vaccines are available for free or low cost in many San Francisco locations.
- Healthy San Francisco Program. If you are in need of a primary care doctor but do not have health insurance, you may be eligible for this program. Call 311 for more information.
Vaccines for Children
Children are best served when seen at one health care site. All children in San Francisco can have access to medical care. Click here to find out more information.
- Call 311 or (800) 300-9950 for assistance with finding a doctor or clinic for your child.
- Call (415) 554-2830 and ask to speak to a member of the Immunization Program to find out about special immunization clinics within the San Francisco Department of Public Health for families who have no other options.
- A new California law requires all students entering 7th-12th grades in Fall 2011 to show proof of Tdap (whooping cough) vaccination before entering school this fall. If your child still needs his or her Tdap shot, click here for options to help you make sure your child can start school on time.
